Doha-based Activities
For G5 to G11 students who do not choose to travel on ISL Qatar trips during Week Without Walls in January 2020, a programme will be offered in Doha. The programme will focus on offering students the opportunity to build new skills, challenge themselves and make the world a better place through service learning.
Students will be able to choose from a range of activities that appeal to their interests. Some activities offered will be facilitated by external providers and incur a charge, others will be facilitated by ISL Qatar faculty and will not incur a charge.
Grade 11 - There is an opportunity for you to work on your CAS during Week Without Walls. You can act as a student leader for activities that are offered to younger students. These are indicated as "+ G11" in the information below. If you join activities as a student leader, you will be expected to contact the activity leader and find out how you can participate in this role. You can also join the Tuesday - It's up to you! activity to be part of the team that plans and runs the activities for the whole school on Tuesday January 28th.

Explore the Mangroves by Kayak (Registration Closed)

Come and learn kayaking basics and water safety, then kayak through the mangroves channels, stop and relax on Sandbanks Beach, explore the marine life at Seashells Bay. Followed by a choice of sand castle creations or beach fun, walking, Frisbee's or just chilling on the sand. Lastly picnic at the beach followed by bus trip back to school.

Whose keen to keep our beaches clean?
Did you know that only 91% of plastics are recycled! In 2016 humans made 242 million tonnes of plastic waste this takes many years to break down and sometimes finds its way into our water, it is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Animals like turtles often eat plastic bags as they look like jellyfish. Whales are also dying from eating plastics. We are also starting to drink it and eat it in our foods. We can help reduce the impacts of this problem, firstly we will be brainstorming ways we can make small changes in our daily lives to use less plastics. Then if you would like to join in helping clean up one of our beaches to remove some of the plastics from our coast, stopping it entering the worlds waters, come along to our love your coast day.

● Backhand combination drive rally

● Rules of the game
After learning the rules students will play friendly matches with each other. This will help them develop and enhance their basic skills which in turn will help them appreciate this challenging sport!

Theatre Sports is a team based event where teams engage in Drama 'games' where they must create a scene out of a 'theme' or 'idea' given only a few seconds prior to beginning.
The day will start with learning a variety of games to help the students get to know each other and feel comfortable with the new games that will be used in the competition. Students will then be split into groups to compete against each other in a variety of improvisations.

Over two days, you will be researching, ‘how to cook’ videos, planning a meal, writing a script, recording an instructional ‘how to cook’ video and using iMovie to edit and refine a final movie to share with family and friends.

This activity is for senior students who are proficient in painting and are able to manage their time productively. We are going to design, prepare and paint a large permanent mural within ISLQ that will improve our physical environment.

An educational trip into the heart of the desert.
Students will have the opportunity learn to set up camp, swimming, building a bonfire, cook and to work as a team.

Leave on Sunday morning and return Monday at 2 pm.

The students will investigate systems for rubbish separation and develop one for our campus. Students will create a campaign to educate our community members on the benefits of rubbish separation and how to go about it on our campus. The students will then design and, hopefully, build a composter for the school’s organic rubbish generated by the students, staff, etc. This could lead to setting up a worm farm for production of fertilizer that can be used on the school’s green areas or sold in flea markets around the city and proceeds donated to charity.

For those of you who are passionate about animal welfare and enjoy spending time outdoors, this activity is for you! You will spend two days visiting the shelter, walking and bathing the dogs and grooming the cats. You will learn more about the shelter and the important work that they undertake to improve animal welfare in Qatar by talking to those who work there. You will also complete follow up activities designed to raise awareness and donations in support of the shelter. Join us in changing lives, one paw print at a time!

As an introduction to the International Award Scheme (Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award) students will be involved in 2 days of in school activities to prepare for an adventurous overnight journey in the desert. Preparation for the journey will involve activities such as first aid training, cooking, camp craft, map reading and orienteering. The adventurous journey will be an overnight trip into the desert and involve the students setting up their own camp, cooking, hiking, beach clean up, problem solving and survival skills.
Provided for the students: Camping equipment (tents, cooking equipment, water), transportation.

This activity requires commitment to attend everyday, rehearse and perform live. The ability to play an instrument, including singing is desirable.
