Grade 6 - 11 | Muay Thai Trip to Thailand

Muay Thai Trip to Thailand

The trip to Phuket, Thailand is a wellness and character building journey that aims to promote self-care and leadership skills through exercise, diet, and reflection. During this trip, students will stay at a Muay Thai and Yoga camp where they will train in both disciplines and learn about diet and nutrition. The rest of the time will be dedicated to the development of leadership skills and character building facilitated by the accompanying teachers. Through a series of mini- workshops woven into the students' training and meditation regiments, teachers will promote character traits such as self- confidence, responsibility, respect, empathy, humility, and equity.

Muay Thai, also known as the art of eight limbs, is a traditional and ancient form of martial arts that combines the use of hands, knees, elbows, and shins. It is a discipline that requires hard work, dedication and resilience. True progress, as exemplified in this program, is only possible in a community and through interaction with one’s peers and mentors.

Yoga is an ancient aspect of Indian culture that revolves around movement and breathing to promote the health of the mind and body. Through mindful movements between body poses paired with timely breathing the body is stimulated to heal and strengthen itself. Yoga equips practitioners with the skills to better manage stress, increase focus, and strengthen the body while preserving its joints, muscles, and alignment.

Grade 7 | Trip to Kenya

Trip to Kenya

Kenya is a country of diverse landscapes and magnificent wildlife. This January, Grade 7 students have the opportunity to explore this spectacular country through service work and a plethora of unique experiences. On this adventure, students will become part of a service community that has been working on local projects for over 16 years. Students will continue the work started by other schools through developing parts of the rural community around the camp.

Aside from the three days of service as action projects that they will take part in, students will have the opportunity to visit the Maasai tribe and learn more about their cultures and traditions. Students will also learn local skills, some of the local language, Swahili, and have a cooking lesson with a women’s empowerment group. While in the lush greenery, students will embark on a trek up Marunga Hill where they will learn basic survival skills, such as making a fire and traditional archery and have lunch in a cave! No trip to Kenya would be complete without going on a safari! Students will have the chance to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, and maybe even a lion at East Tsavo National Park.

At the end of each day, students will have a chance to connect more with their classmates over some exciting activities, delicious dinners, and a campfire or two. What a great way to make memories while helping a worthwhile and sustainable cause!

Grade 9 - 10 | Design Trip to Scandinavia

Design Trip to Scandinavia

The Grade 9-10 Design trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the students at ISL Qatar. The students will be taken away from the comforts of Qatar into the cold winters of Scandinavia (Denmark and Sweden), where they will experience the winter of Europe. Priority will be given to Design students in Gr 9 and 10. If spaces are available thereafter, the trip will be open for other Gr 9 and 10 students.

The trip is directly linked to the unit G10 are currently working on: the Upcycling Project, in which they are reusing waste materials to produce a household item worthy of being sold in a store like IKEA. The students will get the opportunity to present their designs to the Headquarters of IKEA (based in Sweden) and visit the IKEA Museum. The trip also includes a visit to the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen

Sweden is a pioneer in recycling. They now recycle or reuse 99% of their waste. As they are so efficient at recycling, Sweden even imports waste from other countries. Truly innovative thinking! Students will get the opportunity to visit recycling stations in Sweden and learn more about how best to deal with our global waste problem. They will then be in a position to share this knowledge with our community and begin the process of caring for our local environment.

They will also be visiting various architecturally fascinating structures as well as two European universities, learning more about university life and local culture.

Grade 10 - 12 | University Trip

University Trip to the North East of USA

University visits are an integral part of the college search process. Our aim is to provide students with an overview of the college admissions process, promote higher education as an attainable goal, and allow students to experience campus life. This trip will give students an opportunity to tour different campuses and meet with representatives from universities such as Harvard, MIT, Brown, Yale, Columbia, NYU, Princeton, UPenn, Boston University.
The purpose of the university trip is to allow students to gain perspective and get a true feel for the campus environment and the students that attend.

It is a student’s first opportunity to evaluate an institution first hand, the academics, the living arrangements, the athletics and more. The trip will also include workshops conducted by university admission representatives such as personal statement writing and interview skills. Many colleges look favorably upon those students that have visited their campuses. By meeting lecturers and admission representatives, our Grade 10-12 students will begin to develop a deeper understanding of programs and requirements, cementing as well as showing their level of interest. It is also an excellent way for students to learn more about the culture of a university.

Most importantly, students will gain face-to-face experiences and have the opportunity to ask the admissions representative’s questions in person. These experiences will serve as useful material if students need to have a university interview or write a supplemental essay about why they might want to attend a university.

Grade 6 - 12 | World Scholar’s Cup

World Scholar’s Cup, Global Round and Tournament of Champions

Each year in the World Scholar's Cup, students have the chance to form teams and practice their academic and life skills in several events. They meet students from other schools and countries at three different rounds: Regional, Global and the Tournament of Champions.

The Regional Round takes place in Doha around February-March, and ISL Qatar is hosting this event. Next, the Global Round takes place in 2-3 locations around the world, toward the end of June. We usually go to the location hosted in an Asian country. Last year it was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the previous year in Hanoi, Vietnam. Students must qualify from the Regional Round to enter this one.

Finally, the Tournament of Champions round takes place on the Yale University campus in New Haven, USA, later in November. This is the most difficult and prestigious round to attend, for which students must qualify from one of the Global Rounds. Students find this experience enriching and deeply rewarding.
