Early Years Activity: Balloon Paddle Game for Fun and Movement
Get ready to bounce, swat, and chase! Your child will create their very own paddle and use it to keep a balloon in the air. This activity is perfect for active little ones, encouraging movement, coordination, and endless giggles for 2- to 4-year-olds!
Resources Needed:
• Paper plates (2)
• Jumbo craft sticks or wooden spatulas (2)
• Non-toxic glue or tape
• 1–2 balloons (blown up beforehand)
• Optional: Stickers, markers, or crayons for decorating the paddles
Instructions:
1. Help your child glue or tape a craft stick to the back of a paper plate to make a “paddle”. Repeat to make a second one if you’d like to play together.
2. Let your child decorate their paddle using stickers, markers, or crayons.
3. Blow up a balloon and introduce the game: use the paddle to hit the balloon and try to keep it in the air.
4. Encourage your child to swat the balloon, chase after it, and explore their movements.
5. Optional: Create simple challenges like “Can you hit the balloon three times in a row?” or “Can you hit the balloon and pass it to me?”
Learning Objectives:
• Gross Motor Skills: Strengthen large muscle groups through swatting, running, and reaching.
• Hand-Eye Coordination: Practice tracking the balloon and aiming with the paddle.
• Creative Expression: Design and personalize their paddle with decorations.
• Social Skills: Encourage teamwork and turn-taking if playing with others.
• Problem-Solving: Experiment with force and direction to control the balloon’s movement.
