U19 Match Report- Al Khor

ISL made the long trip up north to face Al Khor International School (AKIS) in a top of the table clash, wind and rain adding to the already spicy atmosphere.

The game was close early on with both sides creating chances. Fabian went close with 10 minutes on the clock before Niels skimmed the post. AKIS were dangerous on the break and could have opened the scoring but Affan in the ISL goal was quick off his line and suffocated the ball to keep the score level.

ISL were dominating in possession but were struggling to create any real clear-cut chances. The sides went in all square at the break, 0-0.

The second half saw both sets of teams increase the level of intensity with plenty happening on and off the ball! The deadlock was broken with 40 minutes on the clock ISL failing to clear their lines which resulted in AKIS finding the back of the net to go 1 up. ISL upped the tempo and scored the equalizer soon after following a great team goal, Khalid sending the ball to the back of the AKIS net, ISL were finally up and running, 1-1 with 20 minutes left on the clock.

The game was now being played at a frantic pace with both sides struggling to control their emotions. The ISL boys doing well not to react to some of the tackles and whispers from the opposing team. Fabian who was one of the stand out performers for ISL stunned the home crowd and players with a stunning strike from 25 yards to put ISL 1 up with 10 minutes on the clock.

Soon after putting his side 1 goal up Fabian was at the end of some harsh tackles from the home side which resulted in one of the AKIS players being sent to the line. The ISL boys let the antics of the home side get to them and the sides were level 5 minutes later, AKIS finding the net following a long ball over the top. 2-2 with 5 minutes left to play

The action wasn’t finished yet, two more flash points resulted in both teams having to remove players and the referee having to take several names. With the game well into injury time AKIS fired a high ball into the ISL area and the ball looped in over the ISL keeper to hand AKIS the win.

Emotions ran high after the game with both coaches having to calm things down before leaving the pitch. The ISL players can be extremely proud of themselves in both how they played and how the reacted in certain situations.

The boys treated the coach to a marvelous rendition of “The wheels on the bus go round and round” the entire journey home.

Next up for the ISL U19’s is their last away trip of the year to Oryx International school.
