Helen Jeffery, Head of Secondary

Helen has been in international education for over 20 years – in Tokyo, Dar es Salaam, Cairo and Lusaka – and has been fortunate to combine two of her passions: teaching English and the IB MYP. Twenty years on, she continues to enjoy meeting the daily challenges of teaching MYP students of differing abilities, attitudes, cultures and socio-economic situations.

Currently, she is an IB workshop leader and a reviewer for the IB's Building Quality Curriculum service. Helen holds a Masters in Education (Merit) from the University of Bath; and PGCE (Distinction) from the Institute of Education, University of London.

Jackie Isherwood, DP Coordinator

Jackie has been teaching for over 20 years. She has taught both in the UK and internationally. Educated in the United Kingdom, she hold as BA (Hons) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. She is currently working towards the completion of her Masters in Education with the University of Bath. Jackie joined ISL Qatar in 2014. She believes in the importance of education as a means of developing our understanding of the world in which we live and in enabling us to become responsible global citizens. Her hobbies include cooking and learning Spanish.

Tala Al Massarweh, MYP Coordinator

Tala holds both a BA and a MA honors in Biological Sciences from the University of Jordan. She has taught in many different countries including Jordan and Lebanon. Prior to joining ISL, Tala was working as a Senior Leadership Team member and the MYP Coordinator at Wellspring Learning Community where she has worked for the past 8 years. Tala has been an educator for the past 21 years and has 15 years of experience in International Baccalaureate programmes, mainly MYP (15) and DP (6). Tala has served with the IB as part of their Educators Network since 2010 and led many MYP workshops in Jordan, UAE, Qatar, Czech Republic and Switzerland. Tala is also an IB MYP School Site visitor Team Leader and Team Member, in addition to being an IB Consultant, helping schools implement the IB standards and practices. She has contributed to the IB's work as a content developer, global session guidelines developer, member of curriculum review meetings, workshop developer and an active examiner. Most recently, Tala was part of a team that updated a significant number of IB workshops according to the newly revised IB standards and practices.

Tala has been a certified Concept-based Curriculum and Instruction trainer and presenter (Dr. Lynn Erickson and Dr. Lois Lanning) since 2018. She is a passionate educator, one who is experienced in curriculum design, teacher training and assessment. As part of a team, Tala has been involved in introducing MYP to Lebanon and to this date, her school in Beirut is the only one that offers the IB Continuum. Tala is a passionate educator and one who enjoys curriculum design.

Tala is a third culture person, born in Bucharest Romania, raised in Jordan and lived in Lebanon. She enjoys listening to music, reading books, hiking in nature, baking and Travel. Tala is married and have one son that will be joining ISL Qatar. 

Jennifer Besford, Leader of Student Development for G11 & G12

Jenny holds a BA in American Studies from Lancaster University and a PGCE in History from Newcastle University. She is currently working towards the completion of her MA in Education from Bath University.

Having studied in the UK, Ghana and North Carolina, Jenny arrived in Qatar in 2008 and was one of the founding teachers of the International School of London Qatar. In her eleven years here, she has taught MYP Individuals and Societies, DP History and been a Personal Project Mentor and Extended Essay Supervisor. She has also been a Pastoral Leader for the past seven years, a role that has taught her much about the achievements and challenges facing teenagers at the school. She is currently the Leader of Student Development for Grades 11 & 12.

Lynette Brink, Leader of Student Development for G9 & G10

Lynette is a Physics teacher with 30 years' experience.  She has taught for 26 years in South Africa (which is also her home country) and joined the ISL Qatar team in 2016.  Currently she teaches DP Physics and MYP Science.  Lynette was Head of the Science department in South Africa, which included pastoral responsibilities. 

Thirty years on she still has a passion for teaching and enjoys the challenges and fulfilment of teaching students from a diverse background. 

Lynette holds a Bachelor of Science and a Higher Education Diploma from the University of Pretoria in South Africa.

Sophia Kritsineli, Leader of Student Development for G7 & G8

Sophia holds a MSc degree in Teaching Biology with New Technologies from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a BSc Honours degree in Zoology with Marine Zoology from Bangor University, Wales, UK. Sophia has taught Biology, Integrated Sciences, Geography, Individual and Societies, and Sports Exercise and Health Science during her career in Europe and the Middle East. Sophia is married and a proud mother of three sons. When not teaching, Sophia enjoys practicing yoga, swimming and cooking. Sophia is Greek.

Marieke Scholten, Leader of Student Development for G5 & G6

Although born in The Netherlands, Marieke lived overseas longer than she has lived in her home country. She has worked and lived in the UAE, Indonesia, The Netherlands, USA, Azerbaijan and Qatar. Marieke studied Social Science and Anthropology at Utrecht University and worked as a professional photographer for a number of years. It was not until later in life when she went back to school in the USA receiving her BA in Education. She worked for a number of years at the International School in Azerbaijan where she combined her love for teaching with the rewarding pastoral work. In 2018 Marieke moved to Doha with her husband and three boys and joined the rich and diverse ISL community. Marieke enjoys the outdoors, travelling and spending time with her family.

Ahmed El Hadidi, Leader of Student Development, Arabic Liaison & Culture

Ahmed El Hadidi holds a BA and MA Degree in Arabic Language and Literature from Al Mansoura University, Egypt . He also holds a Diploma in Education from the same University.   

Ahmed has extensive experience in the field of International Education since 2001. He has worked in several international schools in Egypt and Qatar. He is an accomplished IB educator and highly experienced with 16 years of experience in international schools. He is also an IB workshop leader and CIS Evaluation team visitor.  

Ahmed joined ISL Qatar in 2011 as an Arabic teacher for MYP & DP. He then became a Secondary Leader of Learning for Arabic and Islamic Studies for two years. Currently he is the Leader of Student Development and Arabic Pastoral Leader.

Alison Alberghini, Learning Support Coordinator

Alison Alberghini holds a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Studies, a Graduate Diploma in Psychology and a Masters in Special Education. Alison has had over 15 years of experience working in education most of which has been working in special educational Needs settings. She has worked in China for 12 years prior to Qatar and is most comfortable working in International schools enjoying the diversity it brings. Alison enjoys being part of a team that is caring, flexible, supportive who share a common goal of wanting to see all students succeed.
