David is British and has held teaching and leadership positions in International Education for over 28 years in the UK, Egypt, Thailand, the Netherlands and Switzerland prior to arriving in Qatar. He holds an MA in Educational Management from Bath University, and a BEd (Hons) from Exeter University. David has taught Physical and Health Education, Humanities, and Theory of Knowledge in the IB Diploma programme. David is married with 3 children, the eldest of whom has just graduated from the IB Diploma programme and will be studying at Bath University.
Head of Secondary
Nick holds an MSc in Educational Leadership from Leicester University, a PGCE from Swansea University and a BSc in Mathematics & Management Sciences from Manchester University. Nick brings with him a wealth of international experience in leadership. Over the past four years, Nick has worked at the Dulwich College Shanghai as Deputy Headmaster of College with oversight for a wide-range of areas including curriculum articulation and professional learning. Before that, he was the Head of Secondary at the British International School in Phuket. Nick is British.
Roula H. Ismail
Head of Primary
Roula Haj Ismail spent her formative years in Australia and holds a BA in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of Sydney, and a Masters in Philosophy from the American University of Beirut, where she began her teaching career. She is currently studying for her Doctor of Education (Ed.D) with Bath University. Roula Haj Ismail is a highly experienced and accomplished IB educator, with 20 years of involvement with good international schools in Lebanon, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. She has worked as an IB PYP Coordinator for six years, and has been an IB workshop leader and team visitor for eight years.
She has presented sessions at IB and other educational conferences like NESA. Roula has a background in visual and performance art, which she brings to bear in her leadership and teaching. She has developed and performed art pieces and videos at art festivals in Europe, USA, and locally. Roula enjoys art, media literacy, music, and cross country skiing.
Helen has been in international education for over 20 years – in Tokyo, Dar es Salaam, Cairo and Lusaka – and has been fortunate to combine two of her passions: teaching English and the IB MYP. Twenty years on, she continues to enjoy meeting the daily challenges of teaching MYP students of differing abilities, attitudes, cultures and socio-economic situations.
Helen is the MYP coordinator at the International School of London, Qatar. Currently, she is an IB workshop leader and a reviewer for the IB's Building Quality Curriculum service. Helen holds a Masters in Education (Merit) from the University of Bath; and PGCE (Distinction) from the Institute of Education, University of London.
Kim is from the North East of England and holds a BA Honours degree in English and Education. After teaching one year in England, she began her international teaching adventures with the IB and has never looked back. An idealist at heart, Kim has been involved with the PYP for the last 21 years, becoming a workshop leader in 2008. Kim has taught in PYP schools in Austria, Switzerland, the UK, Malaysia and Qatar and has been PYP coordinator in four different schools. Kim came to Qatar in 2009 and is proud to be part of the ISL Qatar community.
Anne holds a BA (Hons) in Sports Science and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education for Physical Education from Bedford College of Physical Education, UK. She has worked in co-educational settings in UK, Australia, Qatar and Brunei Darussalam and since 2007 has held whole school pastoral management roles. At ISL she will head the Students Support Services and teach MYP Physical Education. Anne has particular interest in understanding and developing student motivation and self-esteem.
Head of HR & EA
Dounia holds a Bachelor Degree in English literature from Ben M’sik University Casablanca, Morrocco. Dounia started her career in Morocco while studying, as a teacher and translator than moved towards Administration career by choosing the Human Resources field where she strongly believes in relationship development and enjoys being amongst and working with all persons. Added to that she is also tri-lingual ( Arabic, French & English) which helps within her role and works well with the diversity of our community. She has been working in ISL for the last 8 years where she grew and gained experience by working in different administrative department. Dounia is Moroccan.
